(More customer reviews)My son received this as a gift. We got to use it one time. It was fun, and we really enjoyed playing while we made ice cream, but it's impossible to take apart. After the ice cream froze the lid practically melded to the ball, so we couldn't dump the salt and ice part. I waited for it all to melt thinking perhaps the cold made it expand or constrict or something...and even when filled with room temperature salt water I still cannot get the lid off. I took out all the screws holding it together to try to take it apart to dump the water, and I still cannot pry the two halves of the ball apart to dump it. I saw a used ice cream ball in goodwill last week, apparently they had the same problem, though they managed to pry the ball apart, the rubber seal that held the pieces together was torn in several places. This is kinda expensive for a one time use novelty.

Wilton Mini Ball Pan Review

(More customer reviews)I've used this pan to make cakes decorated like Christmas ornaments, igloos, small sports balls, and the center of a large sunflower cake. It's hard to carve a shapely circle from round/square cakes, so this has been an indispensable tool in the aforementioned projects.
This is made of flimsy aluminum and requires generous greasing to avoid sticking - leave no spot ungreased! I use homemade cake release and it works better than spray (thoroughly mix 1 cup flour, 1 cup shortening, and 1 cup veggie oil - brush on pan with pastry brush and refrigerate remainder for future use). I also had to adjust my baking time/temperature to avoid any burned cakes.
All in all, I'm glad that I have 2 sets of mini ball pans for the occasional spherical cake. With Amazon's 4-for-3 promo, this ended up being a good deal for me. Just remember that greasing this sucker is essential.

(More customer reviews)We bought this soft serve ice cream/frozen yogurt maker for my cousin for her birthday, and When we tried it the first time we thought maybe we just put too much liquid in the first time, so we tried a different recipe. That one also did not freeze. It does not seem to get cold enough for ice cream. But instead you get to eat some ice cream soup. Personally I like ice cream soup at the end of my ice cream (reminds me of childhood sitting at the table with my brother and us stiring our ice cream till it was soup), but do not like to start with it. I would definitely not buy this product ever again. In fact we are planning on sending it back.

(More customer reviews)My husband and I decided to buy this coffee maker for two reasons. One, we wanted to break our Starbucks habit/addiction and two, because we both have really different tastes in coffee. A traditional coffee maker just wasn't cutting it for us because we couldn't both drink out of the same pot of coffee and ended up wasting a lot of coffee. So this allows us to each brew our favorite coffee without a lot of waste. The coffee maker is very quick to warm up and it's not any louder than our old coffee pot. You can set the brew strength to suit your taste which is really helpful and it even has an iced coffee setting. The large water reservoir is a really nice feature because we don't have to constantly refill the pot, unless of course we are drinking a lot of coffee or tea!
Now, I know the coffee maker is relatively expensive initially so the return on investment will take a little bit of time. With all the myriad of types and flavors of coffee and tea available, we have truly cut down on our Starbucks addiction and have both tailored our K-Cup purchases to suit our individual tastes. My husband makes two to three of his own Vanilla Latte style iced coffees everyday. I've branched out into trying all kinds of different teas in addition to making my own coffee. It does help that several cream companies have come out with some truly delicious flavored creamers to compliment the wide variety of coffee flavors available.
While we can get a few flavors of the K-cups at our local grocery store, Amazon by far has the best selection and best prices. This particular model of coffee maker came with an assortment of coffees so we could try a variety. When you are first starting out with this coffee maker, I would definitely recommend finding an assortment pack so you can decide what your favorites are without having a whole bunch of extra K-Cups left over of things you don't like. Another nice feature that is available for purchase separately is a filter assembly for use with your own coffee. This comes in handy if you have a special coffee flavor that isn't prepackaged by any of the K-Cup makers. Just be sure to use care when you grind your own beans and ensure you read the instructions so you don't use too fine or too course of a grind.
We are extremely please with the quality of this coffee maker and the wide variety of quality coffees and teas available for it. If you have the cash and you are a dedictated coffee drinker, you can't go wrong with this purchase!

(More customer reviews)Bought this as a Xmas present for my child and we used it a couple of times...loved the idea...cute concept, worked with just ice cubes...easy to use and loved the idea that it had the snow cone holder built right in....BUT...we kept getting little white shards of plastic in our snow cones...I cleaned the machine out twice, and tried again...still plastic shards...called the manufacturer...no response at all. I wanted to love this machine...it had all the makings of a success, and had the manufacturer responded, I might have even tried another to see if I had just gotten a lemon...but no response, thru email or phone. Now I am trying to find another one, by a different manufacturer, that won't leave me with a bad taste in my mouth...from poor customer service OR white shaved pieces of plastic.

(More customer reviews)I really love this little ice cream maker. I live alone, but often have an extra for dinner, and this is perfect. I had a larger one from when my kids were all at home, and when it died, I knew I wanted a way to make small batches. Homemade ice cream does not store well. I searched for a long time before I made my decision.
This little one is perfect, and it works like a charm. I keep both bowls in the freezer, so I can make two different flavors if I choose. I can't understand how anyone could claim it is hard to clean. The paddle and lid pop apart easily, and into the dishwasher. The freezer bowls take a swish of hot water, dry them and back into the freezer.
Most important -- it works. I make my own yogurt, and easily make frozen yogurt in minutes with no strange ingredients. I set it running while we eat -- usually takes about 10 minutes. I hop up to take the paddle out, and let it sit until we are ready for dessert. A quick stir, and it is perfect consistency. You can make up to 12 oz in one bowl -- perfect for two people. I especially love that it works equally well when I am making just a tiny amount for just me. If you love to experiment with exotic flavors that may be wonderful or awful (or expensive), you can make tiny batches to perfect your recipe.
I've been making ice cream for over 20 years, and I am having more fun than I ever did with my big machine. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store, makes great ice cream, and is as cute as can be -- what's not to love.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this machine at the local Salvation Army for $2.97. I was so excited to get it home. But saddened when I looked at Amazon for reviews and was disappointed to see all the low reviews of this machine. I almost didn't try it. But one review stuck out... It basically said to READ THE DIRECTIONS! So I printed off the manual online (mine did not come with a manual or a box) I followed the directions to a 'T'. I froze the canister overnight in my coldest freezer. I made the Old Fashioned Vanilla Ice Cream recipe in the manual, I made the first part and chilled it for SEVERAL hours. Added the vanilla and whipping cream just before pouring it into the canister. I didn't want to just sit and watch it so I set the timer for 20 minutes and got online to check mail. After 15 minutes I heard the machine struggling a bit. I went into the kitchen and I had lots of fluffy ice cream! I could have let it churn a bit more if I wanted to add some cookies or strawberries, bananas, etc. This is what I have learned:
1) Freeze the canister at least overnight. Better yet, store the canister in your freezer if you have the room. Then it's ready when you need it.
2) Make your batter up ahead of time and chill well.
3) READ YOUR DIRECTIONS (most important)
I think this is a great little machine for the money. I will be making homemade ice cream for my grandfather to go with his pecan pie for Thanksgiving.

Viatek Duo Treat Ice Cream Maker Review

(More customer reviews)The air of the normal freezer (at least my freezer) is not cold enough to freeze the mixture fast enough to make smooth ice cream. It doesn't mix fast enough to keep the outer, frozen parts of the mixture stirred in to the center so it stops when the outer part is icy and the center is still liquid - which then freezes too hard to be called ice cream. Also, the cold causes the batteries to drain faster. Can be fun if you have kids and want to make a couple of flavours at once but if you want real ice cream, get a real ice cream maker.
Edited (5 months later) to add: for awhile the Duo Treat was not available. Now that it is available again they have a different picture for it. It's possible they've come out with a new model that addresses some of the problems listed above (then again, maybe not).

(More customer reviews)I purchased Tovolo silicone ice cube trays for one reason, I was tired of sticking, cracking, broken ice cubes. Knowing if I bought the same old things, they too would at sometime get old and become useless. So I went looking for something better. Then I found Tovolo silicone trays. These trays are not perfect, but they do work. The square (yes, square) ice cubes come out perfect everytime; so far. They also seem denser, if thats possible. The square shape makes the cube last longer in you beverage. Mostlikely because they melt more evenly than normal cubes. The slight drawback are you have to push out each cube. There is no "twist and empty" action. But the only real drawback is their soft and flimzy. You need two hands to FILL & TRANSPORT them to a flat surface in your freezer. I'll deal with that!!

Hamilton Beach 48464 Brewstation Summit 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

(More customer reviews)Purchased to replace our Brewstation Deluxe, which we absolutely loved! The only reason we did not purchase another one exactly like our old one is because of the leaking problem. About 1x/year we would need to replace the 'carafe' portion of the coffeemaker. The Summit was the 3rd replacement model we tried. It is the only other model that has all of the features that the Deluxe had (programmable auto shut-off & timer, brewing cycle selection). I agree with the previous post that it is a bit more awkward to fill. But, the biggest problem I have with it is the coffee basket. It has about 50 holes in the bottom for the water/coffee to flow out of the basket. The result is a very weak-tasting coffee because it flows through so quickly. I can't understand why this model is made like this when other models have only one hole! There is no way to even use enough coffee to get a strong flavor, even when putting it on 'Bold' setting, which slows down the brewing cycle. I figured out how to solve this problem by purchasing a permanent filter basket to use inside the other basket, plus using a paper filter. This adds to the awkwardness of the whole process, but we are so hooked on this style of machine that are willing to put up with it. It is also messier than the Deluxe because of all of the condensation inside. When you lift the lid water runs down (but mostly back into the carafe), and when you take out the basket there is condensation all over it and it drips trying to get it to the trash or sink. I also just noticed one of the buttons to set the time is sticking. Well, maybe I should go back to the Deluxe...

All you need is a good starter culture, a stable and appropriate temperature and clean equipment so you get the proper cultures growing. The Salton 1-quart does a beautiful job and you can't beat the price. If you've never made your own yogurt before, this is the unit to buy. Don't spend tons of money on a piece of equipment that does nothing more than keep the milk warm for a few hours. Realize, it is much easier to just buy yogurt at the supermarket. But if you don't like keep buying little plastic containers, and if you don't mind going to just a little effort to make your own foods, you'll enjoy making yogurt. I like to use milk straight from the bulk tank at a local dairy farm and either organic Stonyfield (NH)or organic Butterworks (VT) yogurt as a starter. Homemade yogurt doesn't always have the homogenous and solid consistency of store-bought, but I've had very good results (quite comparable with commercial yogurts) with the Salton, plus I can use whatever flavorings I want from real maple syrup to my favorite jams. I even use the yogurt in place of sour cream. The possibilities with home-made yogurt are almost unlimited!

(More customer reviews)pretty much.. i bought it as a christmas present for family.. it was so horrible that they actually went out and got another ice cream maker and made ice cream right in front of me.. me, thinking this was incredibly RUDE, took this one back, seeing as they didn't need it. Next thing you know, i find that the batteries don't even FIT! its impossible to get all 4 batteries in comfortably.. and after i finished SHOVING the batteries in, next thing you know, half way through the mixing process the batteries pop out of place and it stops working. the whole thing was a waste of money, and seeing as the ones i bought the present for, kept it without complaints, i went ahead and threw away all returning receipts and everything. so i'm stuck with it. .. waste
