This unit is a tad shorter than others in this size class. It needs only 68.5" of clearance for the portion of the unit behind the hinges. There is a plastic cord holder/dust cover on the back left top of the ice box. This was a cover for a recessed area that looks like where the water connects to the ice maker. I had to remove it to fit under the 68.5" face frame I had. This leaves about 1/4" top clearance at the face frame of the upper cabinet (of course 2" above top when you get past the face frame). I did cover the recessed area with packing tape to keep dust out.
The touch screen is a little finicky about where you touch. To switch ice types or turn ice off, you actually don't touch the screen rather the top curved area of the ice/water portal - not very clear in manual, luckily there one one obscure picture that showed the correct spot.
The middle "flex" drawer looks very promising.
Will update this over time.
Update: 06/17/10
I did see a better picture about turning ice off - better that my initial review. Ice maker has a somewhat different and slightly louder "ice drop" sound. The ice making frequency could be faster, but only time will tell if it keeps up with summer demand. I did have to tweak the alignment of the upper doors - could not be simpler!!!

I am usually a big fan of LG products because of their focus on making them user friendly with some well-thought-out features. However, this product has been a disappointment. Less than 2 months after our purchase we had to have the computer control board replaced. The ice maker frequently gets jammmed with refrozen ice cubes because of the design of the outlet which allows ice cubes to thaw and then refreeze at the outlet. In addition, the top freezer drawer gets ice build-up that makes the drawer hard to open. I thought defrosting freezers was something that was in the past! To top it off, we have already had one of the door racks break. This unit is far too expensive to have this many strikes against it!

PROS: Attractive as these things go. Fits our space. Digital thermometers. Pleasant chimes sound out when pressing buttons. It seems to refrigerate and freeze enthusiastically and it is quieter than its predecessor. I trust it won't piddle on the floor like its predecessor did. It hasn't yet.
CONS: (i) Pull-out freezer door mechanism is very rough, metal scraping on metal. Floor models and most IKEA drawers perform better. QC? (ii) "EZ-Open Handle" on freezer drawer tends to detach in ordinary use. "EZ-Broken Handle" is nearer the mark. This looks like it may be a design flaw. This didn't happen with the floor models, but it didn't occur to me that the handle should fall off, so I never thought to push the point while in the store. (iii) there are very few shelf height adjustments allowed. Consequently we removed one of the shelfs in order to fit milk and other ordinary-sized bottles.

(More customer reviews)I did a lot of research before buying this model. I originally purchased a GE and didn't realize the counter depth did not not have exterior ice. I couldn't be more pleased with this unit after about 3 weeks of use. Here are the features I love most: LED lighting is beautiful. The shelves slide back and forth so they don't have to be removed if you need room for a tall item. I was concerned about the space going to cabinet depth but it hasn't been a problem. I've had more than enough space and it's more useful than the space I had with a side by side. The water dispenser is designed so you can fill any size container. My old unit I had to tilt a regular cup to fill but this unit could fill a 5 gal bucket easily (hard to describe but look at the picture). The ice dispenser is also tall. The ice bucket is really easy to remove. I love the look of the counter depth. I makes a big difference in giving the kitchen an upgraded look!
Other items to note: Ice is in the door which means the bucket is small and holds less. This hasn't been a problem for me and I use ice in every drink. The cubes are smaller than usual, but again this doesn't bother me. I had trouble getting the unit to start making ice but I think it was user error because it's worked fine ever since. I wish it had a soda holder. There is less door shelf space since the ice dispenser is in the door. Those shelves are very shallow. The unit is pricier but I got a great deal on mine.
Overall I couldn't be happier with my decision on this unit and would highly recommend.

NOTHING but trouble 2 weeks after the 1 yr warranty was up. Compressor finally quit after 9 years, lost 100's of dollars in food, paid $100 to fix the fridge every 6 months.
Anyways, purchased a Bosch B26ft fridge w/french doors & water dispenser/ice maker. First of all, it is clean and beautiful in our kitchen. There is a lot of space for various sizes and shapes of food and food container. Maintains constant temperature with little fluctuation. I LOVE the water dispenser and ice maker. We had this in our other fridge, but the ice and water always had a background taste. The bottom mount freezer is fantastic. Very easy to organize items and therefore, you can store much more.
The only possible down side is that the exterior is easily fingerprinted/smudged. Considering the use of a fridge is to keep food stored properly, I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchase. I will update my review after 1 year.

I won't rehash what has already been said about the large size, good interior lighting etc. It's a great refrigerator, and the Samsung literature claims this model has a new improved ice-maker. This may address previous complaints on various websites about breakage and an overflowing ice tray.
A few items to share:
The stainless steel version this refrigerator does NOT have a magnetic front. The less expensive, stainless steel looking "Platinum" model does have a magnetic front face and sides for sticking notes or pictures that your kids have drawn. No negatives to a magnetic refrigerator. If you need to stick something on your refrigerator, it's there.
Ice-Makers:
The #1 service issue with all refrigerator brands is the ice-maker. A lot going on with an ice-maker.

A power outage does not affect your Samsung keypad dialed-in temperature settings, nor does it reset the refrigerator to the default "Ice-Maker ON" setting. For those that travel for weeks on end and turn off their house water supply when leaving as a precaution, will be glad to know that this refrigerator won't automatically turn the ice-maker back on after a power failure, possibly trashing the ice-maker as it tries to continuously pump water to make ice with the water main turned off.
There were a lot of early complaints about the noisy Samsung ice-maker. I personally have never heard a quiet ice cube maker. By their very nature we're talking about pieces of ice falling into a plastic bin! For those that find it unbearable to hear the sound of ice dropping inside their freezer, here's an option. Take a dishtowel and line the bottom of your freezer's ice cube bucket. Then place the rubbery Samsung plastic grid on top of the towel. This greatly muffles the ice as it falls into the bucket.
As far as the speed of the ice-maker (complaints there as well) after the initial 2 hour pause upon pressing the ice button, we get 8 cubes per 1.2 hours.
The instructions say the green water filter monitor light will change colors when the filter needs to be changed. Typically it will glow Light Pink at 5 months and Red at 6 months when the filter needs to be changed. Having had the refrigerator for only a few weeks I cannot prove it, but I suspect it's nothing more than a 5-6 month timer (like the GE Smart Water sink dispensers have) and in no way does it really monitor the filter performance in any fashion.
To test this, as soon as it lights "pink" I'll push the filter reset button. (There would be no need for a filter reset button if it truly monitored the filter performance.)
If it really monitors anything it will turn pink again very soon after a reset with the old filter attached. I won't hold my breath.
For any company selling expensive water filters ($25-$40 each) the recommended 6 month change-out would be for worst case, large families with high water use. Water filter life is based on gallons used, not by months of use. Filters don't "spoil" or go rancid while filtering potable U.S. tap water.
For couples or those with smaller families, it would be a mistake to take that filter warning light as gospel that they need to buy a new water filter. That would be wasting money. As long as the water flows freely, the filter is not dirty and clogged. A year between filter changes would be perfectly acceptable for a lot of folks.

Whirlpool sent some parts and admitted it is a common problem because the waterlines freezes, but it still doesn't work. I attempted to defrost it with a hair dryer for 2 hours but that didn't work either. It freezes produce closing the humidifier slots helps some. The touch panel is fussy it doesn't always register your preference. 2 repair calls and it is still not fixed this is a high end disaster. This is a new design and Whirlpool has some serious design work to do on this model.

(More customer reviews)1/3/2010: Got this fridge yesterday from Sears except in White. Looks real nice and so far is quieter than my older one. Had a water leak in the door of this fridge on day one but after easily moving the hose coil in the chiller it stopped. The quick-connect water lines don't like to be bent so that was the issue there. The unit cooled down fast and I was able to stock the fridge in an hour after the doors were kept shut. It was hard not opening them to keep looking inside. :) I'm not concerned about the energy consumption. I wanted a small french door fridge with water and ice in the door and this (and the Kenmore version) were the only models that met the specifications.
1/11/2010 Update: I really love this fridge! It is so bright inside. The ice maker keeps up with me filling up my 40oz water bottle with ice every day plus other general use from other people at home. As a bunch of people say as well though on these style fridges, when cubes is selected some crushing action still happens but for the most part whole cubes come out. If you were really fussy about needing just cubes this may be a downfall however it seems to be a problem on all french door fridges with ice in the door. You just have to weigh your options / needs. I use mostly crushed ice when I'm at home and cubes in my water bottle so a little crushed ice with my cubes isn't a problem. Compared to my old fridge/freezer (standard freezer on top model) this fridge/freezer has a lot more room inside however door storage is less because the icemaker takes up the door space. Not a big deal though as I'd rather have more main compartment storage. I'm really happy with the purchase.
1/19/2010 Update: No more complaints here. Love the fridge and all it's features. Freezer on the bottom is great! Lots of room.

Now it has become more noisy (refilling, motor, etc) and the cubes are sticking together and coming out broken into small pieces. But in my experience, I've never seen an icemaker that worked well. Still, not bad. It's well built, roomy and still operates queitly. I like the design and layout of the interior. Consistant temps, well lit, installed easily.
There is one thing that bugged me for a long time though... The doors - like any fridge - will automatically swing "closed" when you let go of them. However, on this one they have a hinge that stops them just prior to closing. WTF? Even if you give them a little extra shove, they will stop just before closing. You have to manually push them closed, or give them an extra push for them to swing closed. On my last fridge, all you had to do was let go of the door and it would automatically swing all the way to closed, so it took me forever to get used to this one. I was constantly walking away only to have the door alarm (good thing it has one) go off - go back and push the damn door shut. Now that I'm in the habit of pushing them shut it's not as big a deal, but it really bugged me at first. Don't quite understand that hinge design... I will say the alarm is a pleasant-sounding one.
But overall it's a very good refrigerator, has good ratings, and I feel I made a good choice.

(More customer reviews)We've had this fridge about 1 month and it is very quiet and has presented no problems. It has cold water and ice in either crushed or cubed form. My son loves the crushed ice feature since it cools drinks down fast. My main beef about this refrigerator is that there is a lot of wasted space. It uses traditional light bulbs including bulbs behind the food (why???). The bulbs and their guards waste nearly 1 cu ft of space. The water is kept in a resivoir in the back of the refrigerator that prevents the shelves from going all the way to the backs: another cubic foot of space lost. The shelves have too wide reinforcement on the shelves that cause items to tip over and have a fancy curved front: I'd rather just have the shelves made to maximize storage! Anyway, they need to more efficiently make use of the interior space of the frige including using small, energy efficient leds.

(More customer reviews)I upgraded from the standard freezer on top and no water dispenser or ice maker and this review is coming from that perspective.
We bought this fridge because of the dimensions that fit our space. We couldn't get the standard 35 3/4 in width fridge. We looked at LG and the thing I like about this fridge is the internal water dispenser. It means that you do not need to lose any interior space. I'm glad I didn't get the LG because the loss of door space would have been a problem.The ice maker is in the freezer (no crushed ice) and works fast. It makes 100 cubes a day.
The interior space seems to be the same actual space as the old fridge but there are many configuration options making better use of the space, possibly. Not sure if it really makes a difference.
The thing I like the most is the fact that I do not need to bend down to see what's in the fridge.
A few other things that I'd like to mention because I have seen them in other reviews:
Noise: More than a fridge without an ice maker not really noticeable.
Energy efficiency: Seems OK.
Stainless steel: Get the stainless steel spray cleaner (not the wipes). Does a great job keeping the prints off.
Ice maker: Cranks out the ice. Once I think the there-is-enough-ice sensor didn't detect that the ice was full. You can turn off the ice maker so no biggie.
Water dispenser: It has an easy to change filter accessible inside the fridge. Water tastes excellent. The first gallon or so had a plastic taste (I also used a plastic water line) but it went away. I hear this is common.
Freezer drawers: There are three. It seems ok. Very different from the old top freezer. I like it but it makes you pack more efficiently so you can slide the drawers. This tends to force you to pay attention to what you have in the freezer rather than just tightly packing it in like in the old days.
Overall I am very happy with the fridge and would recommend it to anyone. I realized that after I bought the fridge that there was a model with an external water dispenser that doesn't take any space away from the interior (ice maker is still in the freezer). Had this been available when I bought it, I may have opted for it. Still I have no regrets.

Haier 20.7 Cubic Feet Energy Star Top Mount Refrigerator Review

(More customer reviews)Just bought this refrigerator to replace a 20 year old 21.7 cu ft GE. Our choice was limited by the size of cabinet opening to this Haier or numerous other smaller capacity (18 cu ft) models. Wasn't familiar with the brand. This is a basic, traditional top freezer model with really no bells or whistles which is fine - less to go wrong. In researching for this purchase, it's apparent that all refrigerators these days are prone to problems and don't have a long life expectancy. Check it out - all brands. This Haier may be the same, but it is assembled in North Carolina in a new plant and at around $500, I won't feel as bad if it dies in five years as I would if I'd paid $750 or $1000 for another brand. Materials and construction are as good or better than other brands we looked at and so far - just a few weeks - it's working fine. The refrigerator layout is good and has adjustable shelves. Freezer has a wire shelf that sits on legs on the freezer floor. It is adjustable left to right so you can collapse the shelf to half width and fit in a large turkey or whatever. That's a good idea, but there is something in the execution that needs improvement.
We also purchased the ice maker for about $60 which was easy to install. We also happened to get $50 for recycling the old refrigerator and $75 from Energy Star program so that took $125 off our total outlay.
Bottom line: Inexpensive,functional,works fine (so far), assembled in USA,recommended.

(More customer reviews)My refrigerator is 2 1/2 years old. The ice maker is a huge problem. With poor ice insulation, ice always clumping together. Exterior easily dents, and shows hand & finger smudges.
The refrigerator just stopped working. Freon leak, location unknown and it will cost approximately $700, if they can locate the leak. LG won't stand by their product. I think it's poor quality and I don't trust this unit. Freon leak in my kitchen!! Don't bother asking them to stand by their product, I just got "We can do nothing for you, mam." Don't buy LG or this model, unless you purchase the extended warranty $$$$.

Bosch : B22CS50SNS 22 cu. ft. Linea Series Side by Side Refrigerator - Stainless Steel Review

(More customer reviews)I replaced my 14 year old dead quiet white Maytag with a stainless steel Bosch. It has a nice, sleek look, but problems and more problems. The first Bosch refrigerator was different from the showroom model in Lowes (stay away!). The showroom model did NOT have two large vent holes on the top surface of the unit, and the refrigerator I received did--covered with stainless steel tape. I was told by the deliveryperson to keep on---a real pretty site, right? That was the first thing. Second is the constant-- I repeat, constant--and penetrating alarm sound/shrill beep that goes on 15-20 seconds (not one minute) after the door is open, and there is NO way to permanently shut it off. It can drive you CRAZY. Next is when you get water from the dispenser. No matter how careful you are, it leaks and drips onto the surface of the door, then drips AFTER you take away the drinking glass. In addition, the freezer shelves fill with frost VERY quickly. However, I noticed a crack in the interior of this unit, so back it went to Lowe's, and I received the same model as a replacement. Why I just didn't select another/different brand, well, I was naive. I have a space problem and need a counter depth refrigerator.
Anyway, the second Bosch refrigerator arrived, complete with the holes on top and all its other sundry faults I mentioned above. Now, the difference is that this second unit was so noisy, so loud, that I heard the noise from my bedroom, which is quite far away fron the kitchen. The noise was that loud and constant. Let me repeat: constant. I absolutely could not and cannot take it. I could not get a restful night's sleep. Mind you, the first refrigerator was quiet. This second replacement, as loud as can be, and extremely intolerable and unrelenting. Obviously, there was something wrong with it. I called Lowe's and they are picking it up tomorrow, and that is the end of my buying a Bosch refrigerator. I will have my money refunded. I am thinking about an LG. I hear that brand is the quietest. Any suggestions? Bottom line: please stay away, far, far away, from Bosch refrigerators. The absolute worst. Oh, one more thing: I have a Dacor range and microwave. The stainless steel on Dacor appliances seems superior in shine and durability to the much more duller Bosch finish. Don't buy Bosch. Ever.
