(More customer reviews)I love the idea of a durable ice cube tray. I've quite accidentally destroyed many plastic ones over the years, and I grow tired of adding more stuff into landfills needlessly. When i saw this, it was elated to think I'd have something that would be quite durable.
I'm torn about this product, for i like the concept. For 38 dollars with shipping, this thing should be built like a tank. Given how it's built, it should be [...] So I've given it 3 stars for this reason. The lever/cube mechanism (quality) is far too weak and thin---after all, i was looking for durability and longevity. I'm not confident that it will last for decades unless treated quite cautiously. In my first few trays and testing, I've put a sleight bend into the cube separators where the lever puts pressure on it. *It can be bent back* but anytime metal is flexed to the point of distortion, and flexed back, eventually it will crack if it happens enough. Now that i know, i can be more cautious with it, but as i said, it's not built like it should be for the price.Dimensions of tray interior where cubes are made: 4x10x1 (but as i said, fill to only half full, so 4x10x0.5) Smaller than i would have estimated from pictures, but still adequate in my opinion.
No instructions: A Recommended fill level would be nice. After my own little testing, I don't recommend over half full, maybe a bit less.
Freeze it with the lever down, as the description says. For someone with grip issues, do not freeze it with the lever up and try to push it down to separate cubes--the lever is not designed for stress in that direction.
One more thing: being all metal, I feel it certainly makes solid cubes faster than plastic trays ever will. As a single person, with a small cube bucket, i feel no need for more than one of these trays.

I take my ice cream ball to a friend's house so that our kids can play, and then we can have ice cream. All goes well until I dump the salty water into her beautiful sink, and then I spend the next ten minutes apologizing and scraping little rocks and what looks suspiciously like bits of glass out of her garbage disposal.
The salt part all dissolved right on cue, but that stuff was certainly not all salt. I couldn't believe that I was right, but when I got home I checked and double checked the bag--yep, little rocks. Maybe I got a bad bag? Maybe it's supposed to be rocks and salt instead of rock salt? All I know is I'll be picking a different brand next time I make ice cream.

You freeze the bowl, make your mix of whatever you want, and just pop it on and you have soft ice cream in 5 minutes, thicker ice cream in about 10 minutes. Makes 1 large bowl of ice cream, but you can make two batches with the double bowl. Also this doesn't take a whole lot of space up, so it's good if you don't have a whole lot of storage (which I don't). I can't wait to make fruit sorbet and smoothies with fresh fruit in the summer. I really like this because you control all the ingredients, so it's really good if you have food allergies, or diet restrictions. You could make fruit sorbets with spenda or honey - so this would be great if on a diet. The only thing, this doesn't mash fruit - so if you want to make something with fruit and want it really smooth, run it through a blender first. I just chopped a banana really small and it made for some great chunky banana ice cream :) Definetly worth the money- Great Buy!

(More customer reviews)Have both these and glass yogurt containers. Give me the glass hands down any time any where. The lids that screw on and off with the glass ones just seem to function better and easier. These may take up a tad less room in your fridge as they are narrower and taller over all but glass seems cleaner and I can't say enough good things about the glass jars. Also I will reach for the kerr or ball 4 ounce regular lid jars when I need an extra yogurt jar or two over these once again. I find the plastic lids on the acrylic jars hard to remove without disturbing the yogurt. Yes I like my yogurt with a firm non stirred up texture. Otherwise it goes into smoothy style drinks and it doesn't matter. Each to their own but glass is my cup of yogurt and choice...these plastic ones now sit down in the dark basement shelf...waiting quietly at least. PS you can get plastic screw on caps for all regular canning jars and also most mayo plastic lids fit them as well. But by all means MAKE YOGURT no matter what your preferences of tools be.

Some say it is noisy, but they have never used an ice cream maker before because it is no different from any other. It is super easy and very fast. less than 30 minutes and no preperation at all. Just wash the bucket, slide it in the sleve, pour in what you want and turn the dial. I made chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, all the first nite in about an hour and a half. Then just rinse the slide out metal bucket and your done!

Hamilton Beach 47454 BrewStation Deluxe 12-Cup Coffeemaker Review

(More customer reviews)I just got this coffee maker today, after months of reading, looking around, and pondering whether ot not it was going to be worth the money. I've always loved the look of it, especially the cool blue glowing display, but would it work as great as it looks? Well, as I sit here enjoying my first cup of perfect hazlenut coffee, I can say that so far, it's wonderful!
Getting it all set up was very easy, but a bit time consuming, since you have to let it cycle through about 3 or 4 times total to clean and rinse, but well worth it! Once cleaned, I decided to give it a try and brewed a 4 cup pot of coffee. When it was done, I dispensed it into my mug with no messy dripping and am enjoying the first half of it now. I will let the other half sit to see if it will taste just as good at the end of the 4 hrs. The coffee I'm drinking now is great. No bitterness, not too strong or too bland, and the perfect temperature.
Overall, I think this is a great machine and would highly recommend it!
*UPDATE*
So, I've been using this coffee maker for a few weeks now and everything is still great! But, I wanted to throw a couple of things out there for anyone comtemplating their purchase. My only real complaint is that there's no audible signal to let you know that the coffee's done or that the 4 hour warming period is over. I know it's not a necesity, but my Mr. Coffee had this feature and I really liked it. Guess I'm just spoiled! Also, here's a tip. The instructions say that using a paper filter along with the gold filter is optional. However, I've found that if you don't use a paper filter, any very fine or powdery grounds will get through and end up in your mug. This happened the first couple of times I used it, but a paper filter easily solved the problem. If you're thinking about buying this unit, just do it! I love mine!

(More customer reviews)My cotton candy maker arrived 6 days ago and I've used it every day since.
I heated it up for about 8 minutes before adding the sugar/candy, and the floss appeared about a minute after that. Since there were a lot of kids lined up to test the results, the two plastic cones that come with it weren't nearly enough to go around so we used thin 12" long wooden dowel rods which you can get at a craft store for about 5 cents each.
Before you make your first batch, you may want to watch some clips on making cotton candy on youtube. There is a certain technique to it but once you get the hang of it it's very easy.
We had it running, on and off, for about an hour as we tried different flavors and candies. The motor kept going strong the whole time. Make sure it's on a stable surface because the kids will want to lean in as far as they can to watch it.
It works with both hard candy and the sugar cotton candy mixes like Flossine. We found that it doesn't work as well with the hard candy that's typically pretty sticky, like Jolly Ranchers. The manufacturer also recommends not using round hard candy, like sour balls.
Clean up is a cinch. The metal spinner part and the plastic bowl come off, then you just soak them in hot water for a few minutes and the sugar dissolves.
Definitely the most fun appliance I've ever owned!

It makes a batch in about 20 minutes and, if you follow the directions, (which are easy), you get perfect ice cream every time! It comes with a recipe book too. I would highly recommend making the vanilla ice cream and adding two very ripe bananas and two ripe mangos. You won't be disappointed! Good quality all around!

(More customer reviews)Ok, so like almost everyone who is reading this review...my first thought was "Why am I going to pay THAT kind of money for a hyped up blender!" I can sum it up in two words...snowball fight!
Seriously though, I took the plunge and am not upset that I did. This makes a great addition to any party, whether it's a couple of friends, or a crowd. And nobody's walking around chewing on ice chips from their blender drinks! My kids love the shaved ice to play with, and it makes great snowcones/slushies.
Setup is easy, cleanup is easy (seriously), the only problem that I have found so far is creating the right recipes for the drinks. It comes with some standards...but I like to play!
Originally, my wife wanted to get a professional maker, but we found they were thousands of dollars. After buying the DM3000, we could care less about the profession model anymore...this one makes 3 different drinks in a cycle, is fun to watch, and easier to maintain! It is quick and effortless, especially if you pre-mix your drink ingredients and have them on standby.
In my opinion, if you have the extra money to spare, and you like to have friends over or have kids, this is a great product!

(More customer reviews)My fridge's ice maker turns out crescent shaped ice cubes and they don't work well with this machine. The ice went round and round in the shaving chamber but rarely engaged the shaving blade. There just isn't enough downward pressure to force the ice onto the blade.
Update: I went out and bought some ice cube trays hoping that the size or shape of the ice cube was a factor. No luck, this thing still doesn't work so I'll be returning it.

It's smaller and has less capacity than the real thing. The bottom is not weighted and the unit is inclined to tip over when first turned on with shake ingredients in cup. Can be easily knocked over when inserting the cup into the unit". For the price, it's okay ... it does make a great shake. But the description of "like the original" is far from teh truth.

I do this when I get home from work and after washing out the bottle. In the morning, there will be a nice wedge of ice in the bottle. Fill it up with your beverage and off you go.
If you are suspicious of plastic and think it might trigger poor health in the future, this technique works with stainless steel bottles without fear of hurting the bottle.

Culligan IC-EZ-1 EZ-Change Icemaker/Drinking Water Filter, 3,000 Gallons Review

(More customer reviews)My refrigerator has an ice maker, but no built-in filter. For years, I had been buying the snap in in-line type, but the prices have been creeping up and the availability has been diminishing.
This Culligan model has them beat. The price is good, it's easy to install, and very easy to replace cartridges. If you have an existing plastic water line, installation is trivial. This also works with copper lines, and is not much more difficult to use with them, except the instructions are not clear. The outside box says you can use either copper or plastic, but the included instructions don't mention the copper, or the additional tools needed to file the edge as the outside box mentions. Despite this, installation is trivial enough that it's not likely to be an issue.
If you do have copper, and need to fit things in a tight space, you might need to replace one end of the tube with plastic since short lengths of copper are relatively inflexible.
I also got one for my instant hot water tap on my kitchen sink. It's not "specially designed" for it as are the ones that are recommended for those, but they all take the same size tubes and have cold water coming in and going out. This one is far cheaper, does everything I want to make the water taste good, and there are enough Culligan options for anybody who wants a different level of filtration that you can pick what you need.
UPDATE:
Two years later, I removed it. It was not that there was any problem, but I installed a whole house filtration system and it was no longer needed. That showed me two things: First, the taste of the water did not change, meaning the Culligan worked just as well for me as the far more expensive system, at least with respect to taste. Second, it had been slowing down the flow of water on my instant hot water dispenser. The flow was noticeably faster without it, but I would not consider the slow down an inconvenience at least with respect to filling glasses or cups.
