Hamilton Beach Iced Tea Maker Review

Hamilton Beach Iced Tea Maker
Average Reviews:

For a connoisseur of iced tea such as myself this is a most wonderful gadget, it works so well that I bought a second one just in case anything happens to it then I'll have a replacement.
I have a suggestion to offer about the manufacturer's instructions or for anyone who makes their own iced tea. If you have always had a problem with your tea tasting bitter after you make it then try this, DO NOT ADD ICE BEFORE BREWING as per the mfgs instructions, also never boil water with tea in it, add hot water to your tea, steep for about 3 minutes no longer than 4-5 minutes, or in this case just let the machine handle it, after you brew your tea and remove the loose tea or bags, LET THE PITCHER SET OPEN TOPPED TO AIR OUT FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES. In this time I have found that the bitterness seeps out and the end result is far better tasting tea, much smoother and with less bite. After that add just enough ice to chill then fill to the top line,(Or Lower if not strong enough) with cold water and make it the way you like.
I have always thought that the cafeterias and nice restaurants have made the best tea, but now I have surpassed even the best of restaurants by trying different teas and brewing them together for fabulous flavors. This Hamilton Beach Tea Maker has its own tea strainer built in but you can also remove the strainer and use a regular large round pleated coffee filter in the basket which will make it much easier to dispose of the wet loose tea when you are done brewing.
To start with try 2 tablespoons of Lipton loose tea. Online you can go to TheteaSmith.com and order their flavored blended teas like Subtle Strawberry, Blue Shadow, Refreshing Raspberry and many others, I put a pinch or 2 of all 3 of these flavors in first and then the the 2 Tblspns of Lipton in the coffee filter set the brew dial on strong and follow the above instructions, and get exquisite fruity flavored tea, from here the possibilities are endless...Enjoy.

Tovolo Icon Ice Cream Sandwich Molds, Set of 3 Review

Tovolo Icon Ice Cream Sandwich Molds, Set of 3
Average Reviews:

With the assistance of these cute contraptions making ice cream sandwiches becomes incredibly easy. You begin by baking your favorite soft and chewy cookie recipe. Next, you allow them to cool slightly before cutting out the cookies with whichever shape you decide to use. This kit comes with a heart, star, and a squircle. I'm not making that up. They actually refer to the odd shaped mold as a "squircle." There's also a kit that comes with animal shapes (a chicken, cow, and pig) if that's more your style. After cutting out your cookie shapes let them cool completely on a wire rack. Finally, assemble the cookies by placing one cookie in the mold, adding a scoop of ice cream, topping with an additional cookie, and firmly applying pressure with the cookie press. Voila! A cute ice cream sandwich is born. If you aren't going to eat the treats immediately you'll definitely want to place them in the freezer as they start to melt quickly.
I can definitely imagine using something like this for a child's slumber party, birthday party, or even as an interactive end to a grown-up dinner party. Just bake the cookie shapes ahead of time and set out the molds, ice cream, and bowls of sprinkles for your guests to use.

GE Monogram ZDIS150WSS 50lb Production, 25lb Capacity Automatic Icemaker (optional pump drain) Review

GE Monogram ZDIS150WSS 50lb Production, 25lb Capacity Automatic Icemaker (optional pump drain)
Average Reviews:

This icemaker needs cleaning in order to function, that is why it gets some mixed reviews. First, try to supply softwater to the icemaker. That will solve most problems. However, if you have only hard water, you need to clean (every 6-8) months the freezing tray. IGNORE the cleaning instructions in the manual. Remove the cutting try and get a green scouring pad and use the cleaning solution on the pad to scrub the freezing tray until all hardwater buildup is gone -- until the metal surfaces are slippery clean. Use front to back motions -- not left to right. Then reassemble and run a cleaning cycle on the icemaker. Then switch back to ice production mode. If you do this, the ice maker will run like brand new -- however, you will never find these instructions anywhere in the user manual.
Having clear ice is wonderful! You will love this machine -- if you follow the above instructions at least 1 time per year. You will become a real "Ice-Snob." I gave only 4 stars because GE is brain dead not listing these cleaning instructions in their user manual and their telephone support people know less about this icemaker than the owner. But, because of the way clear icemakers work, you will probably need to maintain this appliance more often than a refrig or microwave. Just know this before you start. You don't just plug in it and run it for 5 years problem free. You need to clean periodically. It is amazing how much tiny amounts of hardwater buildup will stop this device from making ice!!!

Musso Stainless Steel Lussino Ice Cream Maker 1.5-qt. Review

Musso Stainless Steel Lussino Ice Cream Maker 1.5-qt.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Since you're reading this, you're probably wondering if it's worth the extra money compared to a lot of the other home machines on the market. I've had mine for three and a half years now, and I can tell you that this is the King, the Cadillac, the Ultimate home ice cream machine. It's absolutely worth the extra money, and I'd recommend it to anyone that's serious about their ice cream.
You probably already know that this model has a built-in freezer, so you don't have to pre-freeze a bowl for 24 hours or so before making a batch of ice cream. It'll happily make back-to-back batches if you want, and the extra freezing power makes incredibly smooth ice cream. Every batch I've made has been on par with Ben & Jerry's, my favorite ice cream up until buying this machine.
Unlike most other machines, everything is made of metal, including the dasher, so it feels extremely durable.
It also has a large see-through plastic cover that you can lift off to have full access to the ingredients moving inside, which makes adding things like nuts, candy, chocolate pieces, etc. very easy, instead of having to funnel them down a tiny chute and not really being able to see how the freezing is progressing. One of the fun things about this machine is being able to stand over it and watch as the liquid starts transforming into ice cream.
If you've read other reviews, you've probably heard people complain about a few things, so let me ease your mind:
Weight - it's 44 pounds, which I have no problem lifting up onto the counter.
Cleanup - because of the way it freezes, it uses a non-removable stainless steel bowl. Use a sponge with warm water, and you'll have it cleaned out in less than two minutes. It's a bit easier if you let the bowl warm back up to room temperature first, but if you're in a hurry to start another batch, you can do it right away also.
Ice Cream Extraction - use the specially-designed plastic spoon that comes with it, and you'll have no problem getting it all out, even in the curves along the bottom of the bowl where the spoon fits perfectly. I generally pull the dasher out first. If you do that, be careful not to drop ice cream down in the crevice around the dasher spindle -- my one and only complaint about the machine, I wish they'd covered that a bit better. Small issue though, I have no problem getting the ice cream out.
The description says it's a 1.5 quart machine, but plan on making batches that are roughly 1 quart or slightly more. Most of the recipes I've found are for this size anyway.
I store the ice cream in quart-sized plastic containers and then put them in the freezer for several hours to get the consistency of store-bought ice cream. (although several batches have been eaten right after coming out of the machine -- it makes a very stiff, soft-serve consistency)
I'd recommend starting with Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream & Dessert Book. The sweet cream base is a good first recipe to try, since it's used in so many other recipes, and is delicious even on its own.
I've had fantastic success with any recipe using nuts, chocolate, or candy pieces, which are all added in at the very end of the freezing process. My first batch of peach ice cream resulted in a great taste and consistency, but the chunks of peaches ended up freezing into ice chunks, which apparently is a common problem, especially with home machines where you're not using stabilizers like guar gum and carrageenan that help prevent iciness. The easy solution is to puree fruit in the blender first, and then you'll have no problem. I've also seen books such as The Complete Idiot's Guide to Homemade Ice Cream include gelatin in some of the recipes to help with this. Although I haven't tried that yet, I do recommend the book since it has a lot of great info about the different types of frozen desserts like gelato, sherbet, sorbet, and ices, all of which this machine can handle with no problem. If you do end up with an icy batch like this, put it in the blender with some milk and make a shake!
Generally a batch takes about 30 minutes, although I've occasionally let it go to about 35. After a couple of batches you'll know when it's finished just by watching it through the top. I've had a couple of batches such as New York Super Fudge Chunk, with a lot of add-ins, actually stop the machine, but from what I've read elsewhere, this doesn't seem to damage it. You can also hear the machine start to slow down slightly before this happens, so it's a good indicator that it's time to toss in the add-ins for the last minute or two before extracting it.
If you're serious about ice cream, this is the one. I've even seen it on TV a couple of times when they talk about high quality machines and ice cream classes. Happy freezing!

Lello 4070 Gelato Junior Review

Lello 4070 Gelato Junior
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just received and tried out the Gelato (reportedly manufactured by Simac...but the company name on the machine is Lello..don't know why a different name). Results were great! The machine is rather large and heavy, due to the self-contained compressor, but that means you don't have to plan ahead or take up freezer room to prefreeze the bucket. Makes enough ice cream for about four people, although if you need more you can start another batch right away by moving the first batch to another container (or your mouth )and refilling the bucket.
The machine runs quietly and freezes well (albeit I would add 10 minutes to times listed in the included receipt booklet). A timer is included to signal when the "set time" has ellapsed. The timer does not stop the churner or turn off the machine. However, according to the manual the machine will shut off before mechanical damage is done, if the ingredients become too frozen and the churner stops.
For a few dollars more than models requiring prefrozen buckets, you can buy this model and reap the benefits of higher priced models. You may get a larger capacity bucket on some higher priced models, but for home use this machine will put you in the ice-cream maker "big league" with no apparent short comings.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Lello 4070 Gelato Junior

With a minimum freezing temperature of -4 degrees F, the Simac Gelato Junior takes only about 30 minutes to satisfy your craving for a frozen confection. Plus, the built-in compressor freezer operates continuously, so you can turn out multiple flavors of ice cream while your guests finish their dinner. A 60-minute electronic timer frees you up for other activities, and an automatic safety mechanism sounds a warning beep if the integrated spatula blade gets stuck. A removable 1-quart bowl, transparent lid, and slim ingredient window all simplify operation, and the unit is also useful for crafting frozen drinks and chilled soups. Though not lightweight at 31 pounds, the Gelato Junior is fairly sleek for its class, measuring 11 by 14 by 12-1/4 inches. Simac includes a booklet of tasty ice cream, sorbet, and dessert sauce recipes, as well as an ice cream scoop.

Kinderville Little Bites Ice Pop Molds (Set of 4) Review

Kinderville Little Bites Ice Pop Molds (Set of 4)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Depending on your ice pop recipe, this can be a pretty good mold. I bought a set of these along with the Lekue Silicone Ice Pop Mold, Set of 2 and the Orka Ice Pop Molds, White Base. These are a nice size (about 1 1/2" at the base and a little less than 6" tall) and hold somewhere between 3 1/2 and 4 ounces each. My one big complaint is that they are NOT water-tight. While the instructions tell you to turn them upside down in the freezer, they will definitely leak if you're trying to make juice pops. If you're making fudge pops or anything that has some viscosity to it, they work great. Since I normally do fudgy or creamy pops anyway, I gave this 4 stars. If you're looking for a mold that won't leak at all, choose the Lekue. It's more expensive and takes up a bit more space but it works flawlessly no matter what you're freezing. The Orka mold, which holds half as much as the other two brands and freezes upright, also works great but I would recommend it only if you are looking for a mini pop and have lots of space in your freezer.

Tovolo 80-8003Y Yellow Groovy Pop Molds Review

Tovolo 80-8003Y Yellow Groovy Pop Molds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used several ice pop molds over the years, and up until now I thought Tupperware's pop molds were by far the best. These Tovolo molds lack the ability to replace either the cap or the handle (they are one molded piece) but the plastic used in the cap/handle and the mold is easily the best I've ever seen for pop molds. It's too early to predict how well these will actually hold up after dozens of freezings and thawings, but if the quality of materials is any indication, they should last a long, long time.
One month later:
While I still think these are overall the best pop molds I've ever used, I did discover one thing about them (the hard way, naturally): don't drop them on anything hard (i.e., a tile floor) after they've been in the freezer for a day or more. The yellow caps/lids tend to get brittle after freezing, and they will crack and/or break. The opaque molds don't appear to have this issue, although I don't plan to intentionally test their break-resistance threshold. I glued mine back together with Barge Cement. It's not pretty but it's functional.

Cuisinart ICE-45 Ice Cream Maker, Soft Serve Mix-it-In Review

Cuisinart ICE-45 Ice Cream Maker, Soft Serve Mix-it-In
Average Reviews:

This didn't produce ice cream like we expected, but now are pleased with it.It is more of a novelty and nothing you would use to produce serious ice cream. That said, our grandkids enjoy it and we are pleased with it.
The two things you need to do to make it work well are freeze the bowl well and be sure ingredients are cold.
We keep our bowl in the freezer so it's always frozen solid and ready. If you only fill the bowl and inch below the top of the beater, it won't expand over the top when it freezes. Also, be sure the handle is up (closed) all the way when you start or after dispensing or you'll have a mess. The side dispensers didn't work well for us, but I didn't care for them anyway. It works well for us and usually takes about 20-30 minutes. It takes a bit of learning to get the ice cream to come out right, but we mostly just dispense it in cups.
We've never had ours stop turning, even though the ice cream gets too thick to dispense. We just take the beater out and dip it out with a spoon.
The beater has hard areas to scrape the ice cream off of because of the shape. There are two outside stir arms and and inside screw that make up the beater.
I found it was fairly simple to clean.
Overall, if you are interested in fancy swirl ice cream cones, this probably may not be your machine. However, if you just want to make soft ice cream it works fine.

I bought these molds on a whim. They were cute and I wanted to make some ice cream sandwiches. I bought two sets, but when I got them and read the instructions, I was a bit worried that I really didn't need both of them.
My wife and I split up the work. I made ice cream a couple days in advance. Then she made a sheet of cookie. While the cookie sheet was cooling, I used the molds to cut out the cookie shapes (2 per sandwich) and imprint the little animal faces. Once the cookies were cool and the we had softened up the ice cream in the refrigerator, she placed a cookie at the bottom of each of the assembled molds (suddenly we were happy to have extras). I filled them with ice cream, placed a second cookie on top and then used the top to gently squeeze each sandwich until the ice cream filled out to the edges of the mold (the molds are translucent, so it's easy to see when you've squeezed enough). Then I popped the sandwich out the bottom and she wrapped them in cellophane. Repeat until done.
Now we have a freezer full of adorable little ice cream sandwiches that we can't wait to eat! I can't recommend these molds enough. I had been worried that our first attempt would be marred by mistakes and unseen difficulties, but we followed the instructions and they worked perfectly!

I honestly loved these ice trays until 2 months after purchase. They worked great, and aside from the 90 second rule when pulling them out of the freezer, they were wonderful. Until the 2 month mark, when in the same day, the handles on both trays busted. Pretty disappointing, since there aren't alot of choices out there for small ice trays for us ice chewer addicts. The little cubes chill drinks faster and more evenly because of exposure to more cooling surface area. Because of their small size, they also freeze faster. Just "rinse and twist"* over a wide container and the 90 little cubettes are perfectly released.

Too bad that these pitchers never last as long as the brewer does! They eventually crack from the heat and if you use them as often as my wife does, that does not take long at all. For a while there my wife just bought a new brewer when she needed a new pitcher because the cost of a pitcher along with shipping, it was just a couple of dollars difference to just buy a whole new thing. But this time we just ordered several pitchers and got a break on shipping. The pitchers we ordered here are in original Mr Coffee boxes and are brand new. Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this to make cold brew coffee concentrate and it works perfectly and easily. It is also great for large batches of hot brew too.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
COLD BREW:
1. Add 12 scoops medium course grounds (scoop included)
2. Fill beaker with filtered water, leaving 1/2 inch room at the top
3. Stir grounds into water for about 45 seconds to saturate all the coffee
4. Place the bonus lid on french press and put in refrigerator for 12-24 hours depending on strength desired**
5. Once steeped for hours desired, remove lid and put filter lid on and press grounds to bottom of beaker
6. Mix coffee concentrate with water, either 1 parts concentrate to 2 parts water, or up to half concentrate and half H2O
I use 1/2 coffee concentrate, 1/2 milk over ice because I like it strong. My hubby prefers hot black coffee made with the concentrate and uses the half concentrate and half H2O ratio, then heats it in the microwave. We notice a definite absence of acid, which my husband prefers for taste reasons and I like because of taste and health reasons. When I am under stress, I have to take acid reduction pills for my stomach, being able to drink cold brew when under the gun has given me back my beloved cup of coffee without the stomach cramps.
TIP: Always use filtered water for cold brew since you will taste any and all funky flavors in your tap water. The water for cold brew doesn't get boiled so these flavors, which may disappear with boiling for hot coffee, are very present with cold brew.
**If you have the overhead clearance in your fridge, you can put the filter lid on and press it down about an inch to keep all the grounds under the waterline. The top knob will stick up about 8 inches, so be careful not to hit the lightbulb in the ceiling of your fridge. I have noticed a small difference in flavor, it comes out a bit richer/darker than if I use the bonus lid.

HOT BREW:
1. Add 12 scoops medium course grounds (scoop included)
2. Fill beaker with water that is just under boiling hot, leaving 1/2 inch room at the top
3. Stir grounds into water for about 15 seconds to saturate all the coffee (saturation is quicker in hot water)
4. Place filter lid on beaker, but don't press down until coffee has steeped for 4 minutes
This massive french press makes enough hot coffee to fill a carafe to the top and have a whole large mug of coffee left to pour. This worked great for a large party we had this past weekend, because I only have to make one pot of coffee instead of two like I did with our 8 cup Chambord press.

10 OTHER PROS:
1. It is nice that this one appliance does two jobs perfectly, it cuts down on the amount of kitchen clutter
2. No filters to buy
3. It cleans VERY easily and quickly
4. If you follow the directions, it is foolproof
5. It is sturdy and feels very well made even though the casing is plastic
6. Looks great, I leave ours out on the counter
7. It has a rubber seal and a thumb pressure pour spout, so coffee doesn't spill out if jostled in the fridge
8. 50 oz. of concentrate will last us all work week, so I only have to fill it on Sunday - speedy mornings!
9. There are no small screws or bits to lose, everything dismantles quickly with just a turn of the filter base
10.The handle is well designed, keeping your knuckles away from the glass if you are making hot coffee
Final tip: To get the top off when you first take it out of the box, twist the top a half inch and then pull the press screen out to remove the lid. There is a twist latch in this lid that my other Bodum french press does not have, and the instructions for using this press are folded up INSIDE the closed coffee press, LOL. Thought I'd pass on this bit of advice for those used to their Chambord press :)
UPDATE: After using this product constantly for almost 3 months, I have to say it is one of the all-time best things in my kitchen. I don't have to take as much acid-reduction medication as I did while drinking hot brew. The system is so streamlined for cold-brew concentrate that I don't even have to think about it. My hubby cannot believe how delicious cold-brew concentrate is heated up every morning, he says it is the smoothest way to brew coffee that he has ever had. I still highly recommend this product and will be purchasing more for gifts.
